Iran stands firm amid US threats!

Missiles sweep the skies of the Middle East as the confrontation between Israel and Iran enters its second week of all out war. Israel has closed its borders and is preventing its people from travelling abroad to escape the fighting. Russia has condemned the Israeli offensive as illegal and warned that strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure could trigger a “nuclear catastrophe”. In a statement on Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Israel’s attacks on peaceful atomic sites violate international law and threaten global stability. US President Donald Trump, however, has backed Israel and demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender”.

People’s China Surges Ahead

Among the many iconic images of China, from the dramatic night skyline of Shanghai to the mountains of Tibet and the stunning beauty of the mighty Yangtze river, one stands out for me. It is of a fisherman in a small boat, wearing a Wei mao-style broad-brimmed hat, catching his supper with the aid of cormorants perched on a long pole. China is a vast country, similar in size to Europe, with many diverse ethnic groups and with a rich cultural legacy. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) it has experienced amazing social and economic change while still retaining many of the values inherited from its long history of civilisation.
